Enormous Painted Lady Brood

If you've driven anywhere in North Dakota, you will have noticed an unusually high amount of butterflies streaking across the roads. In the past week, there has been an explosion of Painted Lady butterflies that have emerged. No one is really sure why these bursts occur but some attribute this phenomenon to factors from the climate to the cycling of predator and parasite populations. Painted Ladies are generalist feeders so during this burst you'll find them on pretty much any flower! (Including invasive species =/ )
